최종 수정일: 10월 8일

Hello

I am Dr. Chayoung Kang, the Director of Noselab Clinic.

Today, we will talk about a case where a patient came to our hospital after receiving 4 to 5 rhinoplasties at another hospital, and the tip of the nose continued to turn red and develop contracture deformity (a lifted and distorted nose).

Preoperative condition

From the front, the patient’s nose looked lifted, the tip of the nose looked slightly bent to the right, and the bridge of the nose looked spread and compressed. The nose bridge and tip was redder than the surrounding area, the tip of the nose looked pressed and lifted from the side, and nostril asymmetry could be observed.

At the previous hospital, the silicone implant had been removed due to redness at the tip of the nose.

Surgical Plan

There are several possible causes for the redness of the nose tip, and a surgical plan was made by carefully considering the causes that could be improved through surgery and the causes that could not. First, in order to eliminate symptoms related to foreign substances, we decided to raise the tip of the nose using only autologous rib cartilage. To prevent redness due to blood circulation issues, we proposed a design with an appropriate height, and chose a surgical method that minimized damage to blood vessels around the tip of the nose. Stem cell treatment was planned for tissue regeneration.

Before and After surgery photos

Now, let’s compare the before and after surgery photos.

If we look at the side profile photo, you can see that the part where the tip of the nose looked pushed up has improved a lot, and the part that looks lifted has also improved, and the columella has been lowered slightly, making the nasolabial angle look more natural.

When observed from the 45-angle view, the nose bridge line has become much more natural and an improvement in the protruding mouth can be observed.

Even from the front, the part where the tip of the nose looked depressed has improved, the part where the bridge of the nose was spread has also improved, and the part that looks curved overall has also improved a lot. And the parts that seemed to belifted naturally improved as well.

The blunt and wide areas of the nose tip have also been improved a lot.

Dr. Kang’s opinion regarding nose tip redness after surgery

This is something we sometimes see during revision surgery consultations. Redness of the tip of the nose after rhinoplasty is a very common symptom in the early stages of surgery. Of course, since the tip of the nose is higher than before, blood circulation may be reduced. In particular, if the surgical wound is not completely healed, redness may persist. Also, in the early stages after surgery, redness without any reason can be related to inflammation, so it is something to watch out for very carefully. However, if the tip of the nose remains red even 6 months or 1 year after surgery, there are several possible causes. Firstly, the tip of the nose may be high and blood circulation may be reduced or blood flow may be impaired due to damage to the blood vessels at the tip of the nose; secondly, the material used on the tip of the nose may have caused a foreign body reaction such as an immune rejection reaction causing redness; and finally, the tip of the nose may have been damaged. You can think of cases where redness persists due to blushing, where many blood vessels appear in the skin and the skin looks red.In the first two cases, some improvement can be achieved through surgical treatment and stem cell treatment, but in the last case, conservative treatment such as dermatological vascular laser treatment or medication treatment may be necessary. In particular, in cases of blushing, it is common for facial blush to extend to both cheekbones, including the tip of the nose. When undergoing surgery to treat a red nose, we explain that it can improve by about 50% depending on the cause of the redness. Some people say it improves a lot after surgery, but some people say it does not change much. In such cases, we will guide you through dermatological treatment.

Today, we learned about redness symptoms at the nose tip that occur after rhinoplasty surgery. I hope this will be of help tothose who have similar symptoms.
