Hello, this is Dr. Chayoung Kang, Director of Noselab Clinic, specializing in closed rhinoplasty in Korea.

Today, I will introduce a case of bumpy and deviated nose correction using self-rib cartilage.

The patient visited our clinic to correct a bumpy, deviated, and wide nasal shape. From the front, the nasal bridge appeared wide, the nostrils were visible, and the nasal base was broad, making the entire nose look flattened and unbalanced.

Preoperative Consultation and Nasal Analysis

During the initial consultation, we analyzed that the nose had both deviation and irregular contour (bump) on the nasal bridge.

In addition, the nostrils were exposed due to the wide nasal base and upward angle, and the bridge line lacked smoothness and definition.

The primary goals of this bumpy and deviated nose correction were:

  • To smooth the bumpy dorsal contour,

  • To correct the deviation of the nasal bone, and

  • To reduce the width of the nasal base for better proportion and symmetry.

Surgical Plan for Bumpy and Deviated Nose Correction

The surgery was performed through a closed rhinoplasty approach, minimizing visible scars.

To correct the wide and deviated nasal bone, I performed an outer osteotomy to reposition and narrow the bone structure precisely.

For the nose tip, I used autologous rib cartilage (self-rib) to give it height and better projection.

Additionally, a nasal base reduction was performed to make the nostrils less visible and refine the overall nasal width.

This method allows for the simultaneous correction of bumpiness, deviation, and base width while maintaining natural facial harmony.

Postoperative Results and General Overview

Photos were taken immediately after surgery with the patient’s consent.

After the surgery, the nose bridge became smoother and straighter, and the nostrils appeared less visible from the front.

This was a successful case of bumpy and deviated nose correction using self-rib cartilage.

By performing a precise outer osteotomy, the wide and deviated nasal bone could be corrected.

In severe cases, when the nasal bone needs to be significantly reshaped or ground down, a silicone implant may be used to support the dorsum.

In this case, however, the patient achieved excellent results using only self-rib cartilage, maintaining both aesthetic refinement and structural balance.
