Hello, this is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, Medical Director at Nose Lab Clinic.
Today, I’m sharing a case where we addressed dorsal hump and bulbous nasal tip concerns using a customized 3D-printed implant. This approach was especially valuable due to the patient’s congenital facial asymmetry and pronounced brow bone structure.
🔎 Initial Evaluation Before Closed 3D-Printed Dorsal Augmentation in Korea

👨⚕️ Specialist Commentary

This patient presented with several structural and aesthetic challenges, notably a significant dorsal hump and a broad, flat nasal tip. The situation was further complicated by congenital facial asymmetry and prominently protruding brow bones, which created an optical illusion of a more severely deviated nose.
In such complex scenarios, standard implants often fail to achieve natural results. We opted for a 3D-printed implant precisely tailored to the patient’s facial anatomy, using CT data to design a solution that would both correct the dorsal irregularity and harmonize with the unique contours of the midface and forehead.
The dorsal hump was smoothed in a way that preserved the patient's desired “glamorous” look, while the nasal tip was refined using autologous rib cartilage to blend seamlessly with the new nasal bridge.
The personalized implant was particularly effective in camouflaging asymmetry, as its design considered three-dimensional variations across the face—especially the height differences between the brow bones and midface.
Functionally, chronic rhinitis was addressed with septoplasty and turbinate reduction, ensuring that both aesthetic and respiratory goals were met.
This case features a closed rhinoplasty using a customized 3D-printed implant for dorsal augmentation, focusing on hump correction and tip refinement. Through this minimally invasive approach, we aimed to achieve a natural nasal line and improved airway function while avoiding open rhinoplasty techniques.
This case is a representative example of closed 3D-printed dorsal augmentation in Korea, which offers both aesthetic and functional benefits using a personalized approach.
