Hello! This is Dr. Chayoung Kang, the Director of Noselab Clinic.

Today’s patient had a long, droopy and arrow-shaped nose.

Preoperative Design and Analysis

  • Long and arrow-shaped nose

  • Deviated, nostril asymmetry, nasal alar asymmetry

  • Wide nose

  • High nasal bridge starting point

  • Protruding mouth and small nasolabial angle.

  • Wide nose, ample nasal base

  • Columella tilted away from the right

Surgical Plan for Long Nose Correction

Nosetip

  1. Droopy nose, droopy columella, nasolabial angle ➜ Septal graft extension using self-rib cartilage

  2. Wide nose ➜ Reduction of the nasal base

  3. Nostril asymmetry ➜ Relocation of the alar cartilage

Nose bridge

  1. Deviation and the nasal hump ➜ Nasal bone osteotomy

  2. High nasal bridge starting point ➜ Prosthesis replacement

Before and After Surgery Results

The photos showed that the previously droopy nosetip and columella, and the narrow nasolabial angle from the side has improved in appearance. The bumpy parts of the nasal dorsum have also been enhanced.

From the frontal view, it was leaning to the left and had a arrow shape which made the nose appear long, and the nasal base was wide. These parts were also corrected and improved.

The nostrils that were leaning on the left side were corrected, the left side was bigger than the right by birth, this size difference cannot be corrected, but the nostril shape was made to look more similarily, so the perceived difference in size was reduced.

By observing the before and after surgery photos, it can bee seen that the unnatural lenght of the nose was changed to appear more femenine.

Medical opinion on the arrow nose shape

We refer to a droopy and long nose as an arrow-shaped nose. To correct the lenght and the droopiness, the principle is to set the nosetip sturdily. Also, long and droopy noses are commonly accompanied by a nasal hump, which makes it look long and bent, which can frequently overlap with the case of a deviated nose. Therefore, there are many cases in which nasal bridge osteotomy is required, and in some big cases, it can even be recommended to perform the surgery without prosthesis. Accordingly, in this surgery the nose tip is sturdily straightened with the cartilage, and fixedly set on the septum. In the case of needing an osteotomy, in order to avoid nasal congestion from happening, performing a careful osteotomy and using a silicone implant is considered to bring the best results for long-term maintenance.

“A long, hooked and arrow-shaped nose can be more beautiful with enough improvement”.

Today we discussed about the correction of a long and arrow-shaped nose. I hope that this article is helpful for people who are interested in correcting a long and arrow-shaped nose.
