Hello,

This is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of NOSELAB Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Today, I’d like to introduce a case involving a patient with a short, upturned, and crooked nose. She felt her nose was small and low compared to her facial proportions and desired a more refined yet natural appearance.

Through short nose correction, our goal was to harmonize her nasal structure with her overall facial balance.

Comprehensive Surgical Plan for Short Nose Correction and Facial Balance

Preoperative consultation photos before short nose correction, showing frontal, left oblique, and side views for nasal proportion and facial balance evaluation.
Preoperative design consultation photos: Frontal view, left oblique side view, and left side view.

Past Surgical History:

  • 15 years ago: Augmentation rhinoplasty using L-shaped silicone implant and ear cartilage

  • 10 years ago: Filler injection to the nasal dorsum

Preoperative consultation photos before short nose correction, showing right side, oblique side, and nostril views to assess nasal asymmetry and upturned tip.
Preoperative design consultation photos: Right side view, right oblique side view, and nostril view.

Patient Goals:

  • Correct the short, upturned nasal tip

  • Straighten the crooked nasal bridge

  • Enhance nasal proportions for facial harmony

  • Achieve a natural yet sophisticated nasal line

Rather than simply elongating the nose, we focused on balanced short nose correction by reinforcing structure, restoring symmetry, and improving function.

1. Septal Extension with Autologous Rib Cartilage

The nasal septum was reconstructed and extended using the patient’s own rib cartilage.

This lowered the upturned tip, improved projection, and provided strong support for long-term stability in short nose correction cases.

2. Crooked Nose Correction

Through precise septoplasty and osteotomy, the deviated nasal bridge was straightened both internally and externally for full facial symmetry.

3. Nostril Reshaping

Adjusted nostril size and alignment to enhance balance and natural orientation.

4. Nasolabial Angle Refinement

Refined the angle between the nose and upper lip to improve the side profile and overall harmony.

5. Functional Improvement

Reconstructed the nasal valve, corrected septal deviation, and reduced turbinate size.

These steps ensured better airflow and improved nasal breathing, complementing the aesthetic outcome.

Functional and Aesthetic Results after Short Nose Correction

Frontal View:

  • Straighter nasal bridge and improved symmetry

  • Adjusted height and proportion suited to the face

  • Natural, elegant dorsum line

Before and immediately after short nose correction, lateral view showing improved nasal length, lowered tip, and refined facial balance.

Side View:

  • Lowered upturned tip, creating a smoother and more graceful profile

  • Optimized nasolabial angle for better facial silhouette

Before and immediately after short nose correction, oblique side view showing improved nasal projection, smoother bridge line, and natural tip contour.

Base (Nostril) View:

  • Improved nostril symmetry and columella alignment

  • Balanced nasal base with structural stability

Expert Insight on Safe and Natural Short Nose Correction

1. Balancing Length, Projection, and Skin Limitations

Short nose correction isn’t simply about making the nose longer.

It requires precise adjustment that considers skin elasticity, scar tissue, and overall facial proportions.Over-elongation can cause thinning, contracture, or deformity — which we strictly avoid by using a conservative, anatomical approach.

2. Importance of Structural Support

In upturned or contracted noses, strong internal support prevents retraction or tip rotation over time.

By using autologous rib cartilage, we built a durable framework that maintains shape long-term.

3. Functional Correction Alongside Aesthetic Refinement

Through septoplasty, nasal valve repair, and airway improvement, this short nose correction not only refined the nose’s appearance but also enhanced breathing.

True rhinoplasty success lies in harmonizing form and function — a core philosophy at NOSELAB.

Final Thoughts

This case demonstrates how short nose correction can restore both harmony and function when performed with anatomical precision.

Using autologous rib cartilage, we achieved durable, natural results without overstretching the skin or compromising safety.

At NOSELAB, we prioritize:

✅ Balanced proportions

✅ Structural stability

✅ Functional breathing improvement

✅ Natural and lasting outcomes

If you have a short, upturned, or crooked nose, consult a qualified specialist who understands both aesthetic and functional restoration.
