Pre-Surgery Design for Upturned and Deviated Nose Correction

This patient had undergone rhinoplasty 12 years ago, but had the implant removed just one year later due to inflammation. Over time, the nostrils became uneven and overly visible, causing both aesthetic and functional concerns.

The patient visited Noselab Clinic for upturned and deviated nose correction, aiming to restore nasal symmetry and achieve a more natural and balanced appearance.

Surgical Plan Using Self-Rib Cartilage Reconstruction

This type of upturned and deviated nose deformity is commonly seen in patients who previously underwent rhinoplasty and later developed inflammation after implant use. The nasal tip becomes upturned and twisted, leading to visible nostril asymmetry — a typical sign of contracture deformity. When performing revision surgery for such cases, the cartilage at the nasal tip is often found damaged, melted, or displaced, which directly causes asymmetry.

For this patient’s case, the upturned and deviated nose correction was planned using autologous rib cartilage to reconstruct the missing nasal tip cartilage. Additionally, to fix the bent nasal bridge, an external osteotomy was performed, and an alar rim extension was added to refine nostril alignment and achieve a harmonious contour.

Postoperative Results and Clinical Review of Upturned and Deviated Nose

This was an inflammation-related revision rhinoplasty, focusing on upturned and deviated nose correction through closed rhinoplasty.Surgery involving implants always carries a potential risk of inflammation or foreign body reaction, depending on the patient’s immune system. If inflammation becomes chronic, it can lead to contracture deformities or nasal tip distortion.

In this patient’s case, after implant removal due to inflammation, significant cartilage loss and deviation were observed. Therefore, self-rib cartilage reconstruction was essential.By rebuilding the internal structure and correcting the deviation, both aesthetic shape and nostril symmetry were restored. The patient achieved a natural nose line with stable long-term support.
