Hello, this is Dr. Cha-Young Kang, Director of NoseLab Plastic Surgery in Seoul.

Today, I’d like to share a meaningful case of short nose correction combined with chin augmentation (genioplasty).

This case highlights how structural correction using rib cartilage can achieve both refined aesthetics and long-term functional stability.

Patient Overview and Surgical Background for Short Nose Correction

Preoperative design consultation photos for short nose correction — frontal, 45-degree oblique, and left side views showing nasal proportion and chin balance.

Surgical History

  • 7 years ago: Nose filler injection (later removed)

  • 6 years ago: Rhinoplasty using ear cartilage, septal cartilage, and silicone implant

  • Current condition: Chronic rhinitis and nasal obstruction (more severe on the left side)

During the previous surgery, a large portion of the septal cartilage had been harvested, leaving minimal tissue for support in the nasal framework.

Patient Goals

  • Correct the short, upturned nasal tip

  • Reduce nostril exposure for a natural look

  • Create a smooth, refined straight nasal bridge

  • Improve facial balance through chin correction

Surgical Plan — Structural and Aesthetic Approach to Short Nose Correction

1. Revision Rhinoplasty Using Autologous Rib Cartilage

Reinforced the weakened septum using the patient’s rib cartilage, securing long-term projection and stability for the nasal tip.

2. Septal Reconstruction

Rebuilt the deficient septal framework with autologous rib cartilage to restore structural integrity and functional airflow.

3. Nasolabial Angle and Tip Refinement

Corrected the short, upturned appearance by lowering and elongating the nasal tip, creating a refined straight nasal line that matched the facial proportions.

4. Functional Rhinoplasty

Performed septoplasty and turbinate reduction to improve breathing and relieve nasal obstruction.

5. Chin Augmentation (Genioplasty)

Removed old chin filler and performed bone advancement to achieve harmony between the nose, lips, and chin.

Surgical Results — Restoring Balance and Function After Short Nose Correction

Before and after short nose correction — frontal view showing improved nasal length, reduced nostril exposure, and balanced facial proportion.
Before Surgery (Left) / Immediately After Surgery (Right)

Frontal View

  • Extended the short, upturned nasal tip to a natural length

  • Reduced nostril exposure and enhanced overall proportion

Before and after short nose correction — side view showing extended nasal tip, improved nasolabial angle, and balanced profile line.
Before Surgery (Left) / Immediately After Surgery (Right)

Side View

  • Achieved a smooth, elegant straight-line profile

  • Improved the nasolabial angle for a softer, balanced look

  • Chin correction harmonized the lower face for refined balance

Before and after short nose correction — oblique side view showing natural nasal tip extension, smooth bridge contour, and improved facial harmony.
Before Surgery (Left) / Immediately After Surgery (Right)

Functional Improvements

  • Resolved chronic nasal obstruction and rhinitis

  • Improved airflow and breathing comfort

  • Strengthened internal structure for long-term stability

Before and after short nose correction — nostril view showing improved nasal symmetry, reduced nostril exposure, and stable columella support.

Expert Insights on Short Nose Correction and Facial Harmony

1. Reinforcing Structure for Stability

Short nose correction requires solid structural support.

By rebuilding the septum with rib cartilage, we ensured stability and long-lasting projection.

2. Balancing Aesthetics and Function

A successful revision rhinoplasty must enhance both the nose’s appearance and its function.

This patient regained smooth breathing and achieved a refined, straight nasal line simultaneously.

3. Creating Overall Facial Harmony

Chin augmentation played a key role in balancing facial proportions, aligning the lower face with the refined nasal contour.

At NoseLab Plastic Surgery, we focus on structural precision, functional improvement, and natural aesthetics to achieve durable and balanced results.
