Preoperative Analysis for Big Alar Correction in Seoul

This patient visited NoseLab Seoul, seeking to correct a big alar, bulbous tip, and retracted columella, along with a mildly humped and wide nose.

During the consultation, the most prominent feature was the large alar base.

While many clinics in Seoul commonly perform alar reduction, NoseLab Seoul recommends this procedure only in limited cases, as it may cause visible scarring and unnatural nostril asymmetry that are difficult to reverse.

Instead, we planned a Big Alar Correction focusing on nasal base reduction rather than direct alar cutting.

The goal was to improve the nasal tip projection and lower the retracted columella through a Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul technique for a natural and balanced outcome.

Surgical Findings and Closed Rhinoplasty Technique in Seoul

Intraoperatively, the septal cartilage was found to be small and positioned about 5mm deep within the columella, making it difficult to lower the columella naturally.

To overcome this, we used autologous rib cartilage to reconstruct the columellar structure and strengthen the nasal tip support.

The nasal bridge was relatively flat, so a 5mm silicone implant was inserted starting from the double eyelid line to achieve natural harmony with the face.

Through Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul, we corrected the wide alar and lowered the columella without any external incision, maintaining a smooth nasal contour and natural balance.

Functional Rhinoplasty Combined with Big Alar Correction

Preoperative tests showed rightward septal deviation and bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy, which caused nasal obstruction.

Therefore, septoturbinoplasty using high-frequency laser was performed simultaneously to improve both nasal airflow and breathing function.

By combining functional rhinoplasty with Big Alar Correction, the patient achieved both aesthetic and functional restoration through Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul.

Postoperative Results from Closed Rhinoplasty in Seoul

Before and after side view of Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul – correction of big alar, bulbous tip, and retracted columella performed at NoseLab Seoul.

45-degree oblique view after Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul – natural correction of big alar, bulbous tip, and retracted columella at NoseLab Seoul.

Frontal view before and after Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul – improved nasal width, columella position, and nostril symmetry at NoseLab Seoul.

Nostril base view after Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul – balanced nostril shape and columella alignment through rib cartilage reconstruction at NoseLab Seoul.
Before surgery (left) / After surgery (right)

Immediately after surgery, the columella descended naturally, and the wide alar base became narrower due to effective Big Alar Correction.

The left nostril, which was slightly larger than the right, became less noticeable as swelling decreased, and the nasolabial angle was adjusted to approximately 95 degrees, creating a soft and refined nasal line.

Overall, Closed Rhinoplasty Seoul achieved a natural, stable, and functional outcome using autologous rib cartilage and without external scars.

NoseLab Seoul performs all rhinoplasty procedures exclusively through the closed approach.

Postoperative precautions and possible complications after rhinoplasty – includes information on infection, bleeding, asymmetry, allergic reactions, and scarring.
